Cycling and sailing along and on the IJssel

If you fancy a long but beautiful cycling tour, “Rondje Pontje” is what you are looking for. The route is 61.5 km long and leads you along both sides of the winding river IJssel. The ‘Kleine Veer’ (ferry) departs from Hattem, after which you continue the tour on the opposite bank of the river IJssel towards Zalk or Wijhe. At Zalk the Zalkerveer crosses the IJssel and at Wijhe you take your bicycle with you on the Wijhese Veer. South of Wijhe you will find the last ferry, called the ‘Kozakkenveer’.

Anyone who picks up the cycle route flyer at Visit Hattem, will discover that the route can also be divided into shorter stages if is not feasible for you to do it in one day. There is a lot to be enjoyed along the way, such as beautiful floodplains, ships on the IJssel, lovely terraces, beautiful views and nice towns, so cycling it in stages is understandable. If you do cycle the route in one go, when returning to Hattem, you will have plenty of choice to settle down at one of the cozy catering establishments in the city centre.
